So what is everyones view of the new policy for time games?

Those who don't know it has just been changed.

If you sit or lock up a seat within 10 min of the down starting, you must pay time.  I know before I have sat just after the down started and no one ever ask me for my time charge.

I feel that If I sit at say 5:08, it shouldn't not be mandatory for me to pay time.  I am going to sit there for 6-10 hours paying time every half hour.  What is the big deal with getting 20 free min?

I think that this is going to be more of a hassle for the dealers than anything.  There are going to be so many arguments with the dealers that they are going to have a hard time asking for time at say 10 after becasue it's only one min away.

What are your thoughts?

Hmmm, i think this may be one of those...Lets start "enforcing a policy that has always been in place" issues.
As i recall, the 10 minute window to pay time existed previously, it just wasnt enforced much.

Wonder what brought this on, and curious to see how long it lasts.

Yeah, I first played with this on Friday night (if you call a 1:30am to 9:30 am session Friday...), and it did cause a few problems, but once people get used to it, it will become easier.

In games like 40/80 and up, people just stand 2 feet from the table during a time pot if they were called over, so $7 less is in the time pot.  Now if they stand up, they will have to individually pay for it themselves.

And with the way a time game goes,  people always leave right before the next half hour, so I usually get into a game 2-3 minutes after the half hour and don't have to pay.  I usually watch the clock closely, and try to walk a little slower to avoid paying $7.  But now it won't matter, I'll just get there and pay my moneys.

Whatcha know, less than a week into it, and they already took it down to 5 minutes.  I think that is superior to the 10 minute rule, and will cause less complaints.  So far it appears the dealers aren't enforcing it, only requesting it once the floor asks them to take time from so and so.

I dont think its the dealers place to "enforce" it, just take the collection from the players who are present.  Movers, new arrivals "time" is collected by the floor before they make the drop( if they deem it falls within the time limit.)
How long till it is back to "normal"?

Hey all new to the forum and AZ. I did get a chance to play out there in the 20-40 game when I was down for my interview. Now that I am here, I hope to see you at the felt! Anyway, on topic, I agree with the original rule, mostly because where I came from you paid time within 15 minutes. NO FREE HANDS they said. I don't think it really makes a difference either way but I also don't think that you should get away with sitting down 1 minute after time was paid and getting 29 free minutes. In my experience there has always been a period of time in which you would have to pay.
