Happened Last Night...

5/150 game ($75.00 total pot)

I had J8s and was betting my flush draw pretty light.  I hit it on the river and the other player turned over two pair.  Dealer pushed pot to the other guy and mucked my hand saying she did not see a flush.  The other guy didn't object and took my pot.

Floor was called over.

The Floor checked the tape, apparently they do have tapes and they made him pay me back my $75.00.

I chopped the pot with him after he paid me, but in retrospect I probably shouldn't have since I know he saw the flush and wouldn't pay me. He also apparently was a semi-regular player who knew the dealer and floor by name.

Glad you got your $ but wish you hadn't chopped.

gregski

yeah, after I chopped, I realized I shouldn't have.  I was thinking about it a lot and he was an ass for keeping the pot in the first place.  I would never have taken the pot when I knew I didn't win it.

An old guy friday night mucked his winning full house to a straight. I guess he didn't see the boat and thought he only had trips. he did it so fast and only flashed his cards, but I clearly saw his hand. I commented to the guy to my left but it was too late to do anything about it. felt a little bad for the old guy but he was already doubled up in 2 hands after sitting down.

That is a HUGE NO NO. If someone next to you flashes his cards as he is about to muck, KEEP YOUR MOUTH QUIET.  Don't say anything if there is the nut straight on the board, or he has a better hand but can't figure it out.

If he tables his hand face up, now 'cards speak' and you can help out if the dealer or player is confused, but until he opens his hand, keep your mouth shut.  It is very profitable when people fold when the nuts is on the board, or when you have a counterfeited 2 pair, and your opponent doesn't catch that and mucks a better hand...

clarkstar

yeah but he actually flashed the entire table so everybody knew he had the full house. I wasn't commenting where anyone else could hear...

gregski

i think flashing the cards, and turning them face up on the table are different .

That is correct, unless the cards are laid down flat on the table face up, they are not yet live and the hand cannot(should not) be identified out loud.

I have seen a solid angle played on those who think otherwise...

Player A. shows his opponent( player B) his hand without laying it down, B states, "ah very nice hand"( or something of that nature) that implies that he is beat.
A. infers he has shown the winner, the pot has be conceded to him and tosses his hand face down... the dealer mucks the hand and pushes the pot to B.

A. "what are YOU doing i had the winner"
Dealer, " i did not see your hand"
A. But HE did( pointing to B.)
B.  i just said nice hand, you folded( mucked)

Game over , pot stays with B.

angle shooting is frowned upon generally but it seems like you guys encourage it.

I dont encourage angle shooting...i didn't intend for my post to imply such.  It was just and example of what can happen if a player does not showdown correctly, which is what "they" should do.
