I just found out that the Tue/Wed evening tournament alternates start with less chips than the rest of the field.  I think they start with 2300 instead of the standard 2500.

This doesn't seem right to me because I don't think starting later is necessarily an advantage.  Sure, you can't bust out in the first round if you don't start until after, but you also can't build any chips.  I think if a player is below average, entering late will help them but if a player is above average, it will hurt them.  I've played in other places that had alternates before and never seen this before.

I had no clue, and I am in on those nights, but never playing the tourney.  I do disagree with that as well, as starting 20 minutes later after the blinds are already up to 50/100 is definately a disadvantage by itself.  I doubt they are getting a break on their entry fee, so I do find it unfair.  The only time chips should be removed from the starting stack is when someone doesn't show up who registered, either they are removed as they post their blinds from their idle stack, or if their stack is picked up, and then they show up,  they should be penalized for that...not alternates though.

I was an alternate once.

I will never do that again!
