Just finished 16th in this tournament today.  Unfortunately, there were just 141 players so not enough to pay the top two tables.

The buy-in fee for these is really horrible.  141 players and a $6000 prizepool means 41/141 or 29% of the prizepool was withheld.  With such a high %, I can't imagine very many players can actually find these to be +EV.  I understand the casino needs to make their money, perhaps the buy-in is just too low.  If it were a bit bigger, the house could make the same amount and it would be much more profitable for the players who cash.  Oh well.

I agree...the juice on all of their tournaments is absolutely ridiculous....especially for what is basically a crap-shoot.

$40 buy in + $20 fee?  I've never seen a fee that high before and 1500 starting chips is very low.  Are these tournaments all in fests by the third level?  I can't imagine them not being that.  I will not be playing in this game when I move out there.
I am moving to Phoenix this fall.  Anyone looking for a good employee?  I have no college degree and I sold cars for 7 1/2 years.

Played again today and finished 20 something, 3 tables were left.  My AK ran into A8 preflop so I obviously lost that one, which crippled me.

The prizepools there are quite shady.  Today there were just 111 players and the prizepool was still $6000, the same as it was with 141 players the other day.  One would think an extra $1800 in buy-ins might alter the prizepool just a little but I guess not.

They don't really turn into all-in fests until after the first break generally.  It depends how many people are being eliminated compared to how fast the blinds are increasing.  I have been at the final table there and seen some post-flop play before.

Keep in mind the 6K guarantee and what portion($40+ $20) of the buy in goes to the prizepool...you need 150 players before you lose the overlay.

111x40= 4440.00 CAZ added 1560.00
141x40=5640.00  CAZ added 360.00

Nothing shady about it.

They changed this one a bit, allowing a $20 rebuy and a $5 dealer donation for some extra chips.  I played for the first time in four months yesterday and finished 4th.

Notice that as of this posting the buy-in fee structure and amount added has changed to benefit the prize pool.

Finally cashed in one of these again.  18 morning tournaments in a row without a cash so about frikkin time!  I almost busted out of this one too...I had just 900 chips in the 4th round and somehow managed to double up time after time and eventually got to over 65K.  I then lost a big pot and had about 27K when we got down to 10 and decided to chop 10 ways.  Overall, this is my first tourney cash since the state championship although I've only played in about 7 total since then.

Congratulations. I've never played in one of these do they usually chop that deep?

CrazyLond

Not usually in my experience.  I have chopped one 2 ways, another 3 ways and another one 4 ways while leaving a little bit to play for.  I think they might be doing it more now that they have stopped the points promotion and people don't have to play it out for points if they chop.  Also, Monday was a pretty big field compared to usual, about 130 players where 15 were paid out.  It was about 4 by the time we got to the final table and people may have been more inclined than usual to call it a day.
