Looks like I’m not ready for the “big game” yet.

Had my biggest one session win of the year in October… $671.00
But lost an average of $2.54/hr in October.  118 hours

Day of Week                      Hourly Rate                      Total Hours

So no more 4-8 on Tuesdays in October!

Quote of the year... "You can't win at this game...  I don't care how much these guys are up."

I won't be posting my results here for obvious reasons, but I can give you some advice.  I started playing 3/6 at Casino AZ in Jan 2005, and moved up through all the limits, 4/8,  6/12, 8/16, and now am a regular in 20/40 and am a winner in that game, and take an occasional shot at 40/80.  The only level I have a lifetime losing record at is 4/8.  I don't know why that is, probably a somewhat small sample size (probably max of 200 hours), but after I won a bad beat jackpot, I moved up to 6/12, and immediately started winning there.  I would try 6/12 since you obviously have the money for it.  Limit your losses for a session to $400 and give it a go.  If you lose about $1200 or so, then maybe move back down and try to figure out what you are doing wrong.

Good luck!

Thanks pope!  Your advice is very much appreciated.  I don't have the roll for anything but 3-6 and 4-8 right now but I will definitely avoid the 4-8 and take shots at the 6-12.  Hope I catch a good run and build up the roll to play it regularly.  My sample size is also relatively small at 4-8 but no point forcing the issue when I can play 6-12 at the same rake for almost the same buy in.  I don't think the play 4-8 is that much better than 3-6 but I think I'm at a psychological disadvantage from my poor results at that limit.  Better to start with a clean 6-12 slate!

To the OP, very impressive record keeping.

I can agree with you and Pope in that I've had a harder time beating 4/8 consistently than any other limit, including 6/12 and 8/16.  I have no idea why that is, but it seems to be a consensus.  Way back in the day I was a consistent winner at 3/6 before for several months, but when I made the jump to 4/8, my results were much more scattered.

I'm not gonna post specific results, but it's been a very up and down year for me including a month (actually 3 weeks) where I was 8.8k ahead and another month in which I lost 6.1k (f 4 outters at Commerce).  I dunno that even if I wanted to that I could post an exact, or even a number within 5k of what I truly made this year.  I lost soooooooo much playing blackjack (which I obv "neglect" to write down).  I also went through a stretch where I ran horribly and then another where I played really bad.  All in all, I prob made 1/5th of what I did last year and would chalk 07 up as a loss.

I'm looking forward to coming back strong in 08 and my goal is not to play a single hand of blackjack for the whole year.  GL to me with that.

I hope everybody else's 07 was a success.

If you need help avoiding the blackjack tables and other games at CAZ, do what I do.  I go to Vegas once every 3-4 months,  drink it up, and gamble as much as I can stand.  I get it out of my system then, and I don't have an urge to play any of that crap again until I go back to Vegas, works pretty well.  Then again, I hate blackjack and don't even play that in Vegas....

I'm not a big fan of blackjack either.  It was the first casino game I ever played and will still occasionally play it.  With perfect basic strategy, you are giving up one of the smallest edges to the house of any game, but I just find it gets fairly boring.  Honestly, I don't even remember every correct basic strategy move anymore but I can say that in all the time I played the game and knew it, I saw only one or two other players who ever abided to it perfectly in any stretch where we were playing together for more than 5 minutes.  I also tried a number of card counting strategies but never one which seemed able to give me any clear longrun advantage.  I always find it laughable that many players claim to be able to count cards to their advantage when such a small percentage even know correct basic strategy.  I now prefer to play games like pai gow and 3-card which I find more exciting.  I am giving up a bigger edge but getting much more entertainment for my dollar which is exactly what table game losses should be.

Anyway, got a bit sidetracked with that.  2007 was a good year for me personally but not a great one at the tables.  I lost about 2.5K on January 10 soon after losing my job.  I was drinking from about 10am until I left around midnight.  I have not drank since then and took a few months off poker to get my personal affairs in order.  I enrolled in school, paying for tuition with the GI Bill.  I started playing poker again in April and have been playing since.  My first couple months were good but I hit a tough streak in August and another in November.  Since I started playing again, I am down a total of $500 at CAZ playing poker but up about 2K online.  I'm also down about $500 from table games at CAZ.  I've used up a fair share of my savings on living expenses but have gotten a temporary job for the rest of the time I'm in school.  I should graduate next summer.

Anyway, a lot of personal info but I figure you guys can know something about the guy behind the screen-name.  Good luck to everyone in '08, I'll see you at the tables.

Man!  With what has been said about 4-8, I feel like it mite be better to move down to 3-6  can't do 6-12 yet. I have had the same problem in 4-8, win one night loose the next two night's.   OH WELL

those are impressive stats for 3-6 and 4-8. in my experience I lose at these lower limits so I don't bother with them, although they would more suit my bankroll, or lack thereof...
