THE LIGHTING IS FIXED IN POKER ROOM. COME ON DOWN

that_pope

Glad it was a priority.  Only took 2.5 months.

At first i didn't notice much difference in the overall level of light in the room, BUT once you sit at a table to play, the difference is definitely noticeable, a huge improvement> There was a few guys on the ladder truck still making  a few tweaks, and i over heard someone say that once the lights are positioned correctly they may change out some of the bulbs...maybe to reduce glare?  I don't know.
Anyway, its much easier to see the cards.

Glad they are getting these things addressed.

I had to count pips to figure out what cards were on board until now.  I can now read the index from the 2,3,7 & 8 seats even with sunglasses on.  Good job CAZ.

agree, great job!!    Next up, implementation of highly touted player rewards program.

I don't know if its true, but I heard on opening night that the lights were dimmed because they had an issue with the security cameras being able to see the tables with the lights as bright as they should've been... so they had to turn em down.

I can confirm it is fixed and much better now.

Now if they'd only get tournament screens on the walls instead of using that monitor on a stand on the floor...

...and I was also told by a dealer, right after remarking about using the same old dirty sticky chips, that "new tournament chips are on order" but the longer it goes the more it appears that was "wishful thinking" on his part.  Can't have everything I guess?

P.S. I much prefer the jumbo index playing cards like Fort McDowell uses, but it seems most poker purists cringe when I say that. They tell me its too easy for opponents to possibly see your cards... but thats ridiculous.  Seems to me most poker players are lazy and don't want to make any effort to shield them properly... and then they blame the cards instead of themselves.

While the lighting is much better( brighter) there are several spots on tables i have been at that are still a bit dark and there are shadows being cast as well.
I don't know of the shadows are resolvable just because it is a function of the height/direction of the lights...the only way i see to prevent shadows is to place lights centered directly above each table pointing straight down.
AND the heat issue seems to be stemming from the lighting as well, those are some pretty high intensity spots in those fixtures and seems to be worse after the increase in brightness.

There are individual/companies that are "lighting experts", maybe they should hire one to consult and recommend.

I do not believe the lighting has as much to do with the HEAT as you might believe.
The is no air movement in the room, its stale, what about the smell, at Gila CAZ is nicknamed "the locker room".

Several of the supervisors have said that "they are working on it"..working on WHAT?
WHAT is the problem exactly?
Its the lack of air being MOVED through the room, all those vents in the barely have anything coming out of them.

Apov

Well, the heat is being addressed.  By using a "squirrel cage" blower (used to dry wet floors and such) that's blowing down the length of the room over by the tournament monitor side of the room.
Actually seems to have cooled the room, but honestly, not very "4 diamond", cant they figuire out a better solution?

I also heard the lights had been low due to the digital cameras.  When they turned up the lights I was at table 19.  The poker room manager and a brush came to the table and rotated and moved it sideways slightly.  I assume they are trying to position it so the cards don't glare in the digital cameras with the increased light.  To get bright direct light overhead I imagine they would need to move the cameras closer somehow or get different ones.

Nidociv

I never saw the "squirrel cage " blower, it hasn't been to bad, but it hasn't been packed the times Ive been in there.
Who knows about the cameras/lights though that does make some sense that the glare would affect the cameras.
it though this was supposed to be a state of the art system, don't tell me that they cant adjust for some glare...so adjust the white balance.

I can see 'em now.  "Oh $#!+... that's what that knob does!"
