I don't know.  I really want to play in this tournament this year.  I hate satellites though and I'm way underbankrolled.  It's a tough decision.  I'd like to take a shot.  I played in '07 and '08 and cashed both years but skipped it last year.  I mean, it won't break the bank and it's just once a year.  Basically, I am looking for someone to help talk me into it.

How much convincing do you need ? Give yourself more credit, you are 2/2 !  PLUS there is a 1 MIIIIIILLION dollar prize pool !

Why dont you like satellites?

I guess I don't like spending the time playing them when I don't win them.  A couple years ago I played in one of the single table ones and had a chip lead heads up against an awful player yet still found a way to lose.  I even offered a very fair split where I'd pay her a certain amount to let me have the ticket and she declined.  I also don't like the idea of paying juice on a tournament to get into another tournament to pay more juice.  I feel like it's double taxation even though it really doesn't reduce my edge at all (if I have one).  I mean, it should be a better deal for me to play in the satellites but it feels like it's not.  I don't know.

I guess part of it's that I haven't had that much success with them.  I missed entry into the main event in online satellites by 3 spots in '08 and then by 40 spots this year (huge amount of entries).  Maybe I should just suck it up and play them.  If it's meant to be, it's meant to be, right?

I busted out of the Tuesday nite tourney tonight and since there were 10+ names on the board I decided to hang around and see if I could give one of the single table tournament qualifiers a try, $105+5 to win a $1050 seat.  Thankfully I had a great run (QQ vs A6 all in preflop, ace on flop but Q on river, etc etc etc) and took it down...  and I'm in!!!

One try, one entry. :) Maybe that will convince you to give it a go CrazyLond.  By the way... I understand your point about double rake but the way I look at it is $105+5 is way below standard rake and my whole entry is now paid in full including the $50 rake for the Championship...  I can't really complain that the house wants a small bit of juice to run these things.  They don't HAVE to run em obv.  I'm far more upset that the Tues/Wed tourneys charge $105+25 which is a bit ridiculous... I normally don't play on weeknights solely because of the rake but boy am I glad that (a) I went tonight, and (b) I spent two hours in the nightly tourney and never got a pocket pair or any decent AK/AQ type of hand the whole time.  If I hadn't busted when I did, I might not be there Aug. 14 playing for the largest prize pool I've every played for outside of the PokerStars Sunday Million.  :)

My biggest dilemma was how much to tip the dealer, in the end I left him $50 and he seemed very appreciative of that.

Also, realize that these STT's don't run all that often.  I almost left because it wasn't a certainty it would go at all but 20 mins wait was all it took. Only took an hour and 15 to take it down.

Good luck!

Congrats on the entry and good luck in the tournament!

I ended up playing in one of these the other day.  AJ<A8 and I hit the rail.  I guess they are not so bad though, I may just play a few more if they are going when I'm around.  Perhaps I'll get in that way.

As the championship gets closer these STT satellites will start appearing with more frequency, during the last few days prior they will go almost regularly as players tart to "panic" and try to get in.

There are several example of players the last couple years who have spent more on these STT trying to win their way in than if they would have just bought in to the "main event"

Overall I made the FT of the State Championship and the tournament was great and the play was really good for the most part... I think the payouts were a little off but that will change as the tournament grows... Overall it was a great tournament!
