I played for a few hours last night and was surprised there were about 15 tables not being used.  The room is usually at capacity on weekend nights.  I wonder if it's because a lot of snowbirds have migrated north or if its the recession.

It is both.  Summer is coming, and the recession seems to be hurting as well.  This morning at 11am, there was only 1 20/40 game and one 10/150 game going, and finally by about 3pm there were 2 20/40 games and a 40/80 game going, but it is pretty dead in high limit.  But the 20/40 games were off the hook, so obviously I lost.

I wonder how much of an effect rooms like the "double deuce" and "final table" have had on the business...

The things that draw me to a place like "Final Table" is the ability to play No Limit Hold'em and the wide variety of fixed limit mixed games.  Imagine if CAZ got to the point where they could offer No Limit.  Players would be coming out of the woodwork!  No more "Dead Room" ever.  I would love to play the most popular game in poker in a safe casino environment.  F**k 5 & 10-150

In conversation tonight one person mentioned that there are upwards of 15 of these "rogue" card rooms around.  That seems high( i listed the ones i know about below)
I cant imagine that this hasn't caused a lot of the slowdown we have seen in the room at CAZ.( the current state of the economy not ignored as cause as well)

THAT said, i agree with the fact that the ability to play true NL is a major draw to those games, but what i wonder is this...how long can these game survive playing NL, how long till many of the weaker players get busted out and the games get tougher(much)? As endless as the supply of money may seem, don't take it for granted, a lot of these players are playing on the edge of what they truly can afford( at best) to play.

Though it seems that the days of social gambling has returned to AZ just in a different form, and the legality of these games is still a point of contention.
BUT, the operators seem to be pretty confident that they are on the square.

The rooms i am aware of:
Double Deuce
Final Table
Arizona Aces ( opening soon ive heard)

It will be interesting to watch the affect of the WSOP over the coming weeks, especially on top section games.

I would assume it would make the top section games softer, because the type of person who goes to the WSOP for the whole summer is someone who is usually a pro or retired.  The people who work a job may be able to make it for a weekend or a week, but can't take their whole summer off to play cash games or tourneys in Vegas during this time.

Last night was really slow.  The last brown chip game shut down around maybe 3am and they had been playing heads up for a while.  20/40 had shut down a while earlier.  I was playing at the only 5/150 table going and there were about 7 tables total going for a while.

Speaking of soft high limit games, apparantly a couple people came in last night to play 3/6 Holdem.  When they found out the games were all full, apparantly they played 40/80 instead!? and lost a couple racks each in a very short time there.
