I was an avid reader of Bluff Magazine, along with Cardplayer, and always made sure to grab a copy of the latest issue while at the casino.  Cardplayer is still offered, but have Bluff stopped giving Casino AZ free issues?  I haven't grabbed an issue since at least 8 months ago, and that would be a lot of random misses by someone who regularly plays 3 times a week to never see a copy.

I guess it is possible that unlike Cardplayer and PokerPlayer Newspaper, that they gave them free with intentions to turn it into a subscriber only magazine, while Cardplayer and PokerPlayer make their money off of advertisements...

I remember an article in bluff magazine ( about 8 months ago) that referenced the players at Casino Arizona( 5-150 players specifically, every one else generally) as 'Donkeys" amongst other descriptors. The author(bluff staff member) had traveled to CAZ and played and lost to the typical LAG play(ers). He wasn't pleased.

It was not a very well edited article, wherein the editors allowed such pejorative comments to be made about the players and staff at CAZ.

Haven't seen it since.

Yes, I think his name is Adam or something, and his articles were always on the last few pages of the magazine, and were more of narratives then actual poker strategy.  He also had a few 'articles' about going out into the desert and interviewing some UFO chaser that was abducted or something, and playing poker against him...not exactly high quality work.

I meant to add that it seemed like a big slip that these comments were allowed to be made about a significant regular paid advertiser.

And Yes i believe it was Adam Slutsky.

I've found the level of skill of the players at CAZ similar to those I encountered while living and playing in San Diego.  It's tough to compare them to the players I encountered at the Commerce and Bike in L.A. last year...the word "raise" was echoing in my head for 2 weeks after I left.  Of all the places I've played, Las Vegas most definitely had the softest games.  I played some $2/$5 NL and $30/$60 limit at the Bellagio and was amazed how soft the games were.  The lower limits are even better.  Perhaps I just happened to encounter soft tables those nights.

Washington State is the only place I've played where I would decisively say the players were tougher than CAZ.  I only played limit when I lived there except tournaments but overall, those are the toughest limit games I've encountered in a brick and mortar casino.

I wonder what complaints he had about the staff?  I've always found most of the dealers to be proficient, the servers to be pleasant and the floor to be reasonable.  Every now and then they make a cuckoo decision but that's true everywhere.

If you have played 30/60 at Bellagio, why don't you come play with me in the 20/40 at Casino AZ instead of playing this 5/150 stuff!  I am a very nice and friendly guy (and I will be in there tonight to watch the Cowboys vs Packers game, I called Michelle today, and she said they get NFL Network)!

Well, back then I had a job and it was easier to handle the swings of bigger games.

I know I met you at the state championship but I don't remember what you look like.

I played with Adam Slutsky several times in the 5/150 game.  I dunno how it to put it nicely, but he's not really all that qualified to be calling people donkeys.  He played a very average game that was as predictable as anything else.  He paid little attention to the mathematics of it all and would bet whatever and call whatever if he had a draw.  He'd also spend a lot of time on the phone, watching the TV or just generally not paying attention to the game.

Nice enough guy, but nothing special as a poker player.  He was the one who wrote the "Ultimate Bad Beat" article about the Bad Beat Jackpot at CAZ years ago where the old lady apparently intentionally mucked a jackpot hand.  I'm still yet to figure out if this story was true or not.
